We are pleased to hear of the upcoming opening of the city of Camden’s new African American Cultural Center, to be located at 517 York St. This is a project long in the planning and we are excited to see it come to fruition. The center, which will be under the auspices of the Camden Archives and Musuem, officially opens its doors to the public on Feb. 24 and will feature an exhibit on Major League Baseball Hall of Famer and Camden native Larry Doby, who was the second African-American baseball player to break the color barrier in Major League Baseball and the first to play in the American League.

We encourage everyone to visit the center, which will be open to the public Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1 to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
