The Buffalo-Mt. Pisgah Fire Department has been awarded a $4,428 grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The department will utilize this funding to purchase two specialized chainsaws to be used for vertical ventilation and rescue.

The saws, which are $2,214 each, include carbide chains, enhanced guide bar, and built in depth gauges to ensure efficiency and safety of our firefighters. Vertical ventilation is the process in which firefighters gain access to the roof of a burning structure to cut a ventilation hole. This hole provides an exhaust or “chimney” above the fire helping to alleviate smoke and the toxins inside the home. Ventilation makes the environment better for firefighters and anyone inside. The saws also can be utilized in several other scenarios on the fire scene during firefighting operations.

“We welcome Firehouse Subs to the Camden, S.C. area, and we are honored by the Foundation selecting our department as a grant recipient,” Chief Chris Jones said.
