Julie Taylor

A Lugoff woman is one of four Department of Social Services (DSS) employees of the month for January.

SNAP Program Coordinator II Julie Taylor -- a quality control supervisor in the state office’s division of accountability data and research -- is one of the four employees.

Taylor began her career with DSS almost 32 years ago as a SNAP caseworker. She then worked in SNAP claims, SNAP policy and, finally, in her current position as a SNAP quality control supervisor. She manages a group that completes federal reviews of individuals receiving SNAP benefits to ensure accuracy.

DSS management chose Taylor for “consistently understanding the necessity of getting a job completed correctly and timely even when obstacles get in the way.” She credits her team with their success and making her job a pleasure.

According to her nominator, Taylor exemplifies DSS’ core principles:

• Competence -- understands the necessity of getting a job completed correctly and timely even when obstacles get in the way; she will find a way to break through.

• Courage -- has the courage to meet her staff, her superiors and our federal partners head on when necessary but does this in a way that is non-confrontational in nature.

• Compassion -- firm, but compassionate with staff; all quality control reviewers that have worked under her want to stay under her supervision.

Originally from Lancaster, Taylor now resides in Lugoff

Employees of the month had lunch with the state director along with other honorees, received a dedicated parking space, and a photo and write up displayed at the state office.

Other January winners were Rennette Hawkins-Capers, an EBT program coordinator; Cathy Mack, a background investigator in the Office of Inspector General; and Anna Henson, a family preservation case manager with Lancaster County DSS.
