Kershaw County Council will give second reading consideration to a proposed Fee In Lieu of Taxes agreement (FILOT) between Kershaw County and Canfor Southern Pine Inc. during tonight’s meeting at the County Government Center. More specifically, the FILOT codifies the company agrees to a minimum investment of $35 million over five years with an assessment ratio of 6 percent and a fixed millage rate of 324.4 mills over 30 years.

Council had passed first reading, by title only, the proposed FILOT during its Jan. 23 meeting; council passed a resolution identifying and inducing a proposed investment by Canfor Southern Pine, Inc. during its Feb. 13 meeting.

No new jobs are expected to be created as a result of this expansion by Canfor Southern Pine, according to county officials.

Council will also consider extension of the audit contract between the county and Sheheen Hancock and Godwin, the local CPA firm that currently performs the audit and prepares the audit report for Kershaw County. Council will also further discuss re-establishment of the Clean Community Commission as well as consider appointments to the Accommodations Tax (ATAX) Committee.

Kershaw County Council meets today at 5:30 p.m. in the County Government Center, 515 Walnut St., Camden. Meetings are open to the public.
