At this rate, Lugoff-Elgin girls’ soccer head coach Carl Spoto better have a sturdy eraser by his side to re-write the Lady Demons’ record books.

This past weekend, Spoto’s charges won the L-E Kickoff Classic to improve to 4-0 on the season. In the first quartet of games, the Lady Demons have outscored the opposition by a combined 22-0 count.

L-E whitewashed Ben Lippen, 4-0, in the championship match of the tournament in a contest played at what Spoto termed, a “torrid pace” after his girls defeated BL, 3-0, in a preliminary round contest.

Sophia Moschella scored the only goal which the hostesses would need in the fifth minute to give L-E an early  1-0 lead. BL then seized momentum and had L-E playing very defensively most of the rest of the first half.

The second half started the same way with BL setting the pace until Darcy Belcher’s goal lifted L-E to a 2-0 lead. It was all Lady Demons after that as they shut down the Lady Falcons’ offense.

The visitors had one last gasp to avert the shutout on a point blank shot, but L-E senior keeper Madison Guthrie put the save away.

Earning all-tournament honors for the Lady Demons were Darcy Belcher, Sarah Turner, Abby Capps, Ashley Smith, Darby Mihelich and Moschella.

The Lugoff-Elgin junior varsity squad made it a complete sweep as they won the jayvee side of the tournament as the Lady Demons also defeated Ben Lippen for the championship with a 5-0 win.

In the jayvee championship match, seventh-grader Mallory Truesdale scored four goals and assisted Erin Belcher on the fifth as the Lady Demons matched their varsity colleagues in opening the season with four wins in as many matches.
