Man dies from motorcycle accident injuries

A man has died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

According to Kershaw County Coroner David West, the accident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 23. West said two motorcycles were traveling south on U.S. 1 between Lugoff and Elgin  when they struck an SUV turning left turn onto Whitehead Road. Both Motorcycles hit the SUV and both riders were air lifted to Palmetto Richland Hospital.

One of the riders, William J. Hackett, 51, of Elgin, died Feb. 25, West said. The cause of death was massive head injuries and blunt force trauma.

Hackett was not wearing a helmet when the accident occurred, West said.
