With Dr. Frank Morgan’s announcement in January that he is retiring as superintendent of the Kershaw County School District as of June 30, the search for a new superintendent is moving forward.

We are pleased to see the district taking steps to solicit public input and participation in this very important decision. To that end, a series of small group meetings and public forums have been planned for the week of March 19-22.

Open forums, specifically for the community, are being held on Monday, March 19 from 6-7 p.m. in the auditoriums of Camden, Lugoff-Elgin and North Central high schools. These forums will be open to anyone who would like to attend.

We believe this is a great opportunity, and we urge everyone to consider attending and participating in this very important process. In fact, we believe participation in this can be similarly compared to voting. To wit: if you can’t be bothered to vote, you really shouldn’t complain about those who are ultimately elected to public office. Likewise, if you can’t be bothered to take more than an ancillary interest in the selection of the person who will lead the school district, then you really shouldn’t complain about the state of educational affairs in Kershaw County.
