City needs to put brakes on spending

Wake up, citizens of Camden! Do you have any clue what Mayor Jeffrey Graham and city council are doing? Probably not, we would all be at the council meetings protesting.

Council is spending money like we all are rich. Oh, let’s tear down Rhame Arena and buy Mather property to build a recreational facility right next to Atlas Gym, which will cost millions. Or, let’s narrow Broad Street from DeKalb to York and spend millions for a truck bypass route.

Do citizens realize that we have to have a new waste water treatment plant operational by August 2012, as was reported by the Chronicle-Independent? We all have to pay for this with increases in our water and sewer rates.

We need to put a lid on council’s spending. These projects – except for the waste water treatment plant – are fluff at this time for Camden. Many of us citizens can hardly afford the basic expenses.

Council needs to live within its means just like us taxpayers.
