LGC meets Monday

Gilland to be featured speaker

Lugoff Garden Club will hold its March meeting Monday at Sarah Holmberg’s home in Ridgeway, with Karen Wendel as co-hostess. The social hour begins at 6:30 p.m. and the speaker’s presentation starts at 7 p.m. The speaker will be Liz Gilland, urban forester for the city of Camden. The topic of her presentation is, “Trees of Biblical Times”.

Gilland’s primary responsibility is tree management, which includes young tree pruning, selection/installation/care of newly planted trees and the evaluation of trees for health and safety. She also serves as liaison to the Parks and Trees Commission, implements the tree ordinance and provides technical and educational assistance to citizens and civic/non-profit groups regarding tree issues. Before coming to Camden, she worked for the S.C. Forestry Commission for 18 years in a variety of field and state-wide level positions.
