Thank you to Rev. Pickett Wall for his letter which takes issue with Palmetto State Armory’s offensive advertising. If they truly want to have civil and intellectual conversations about the Second Amendment, their actions need to speak as loudly as their words. Where was the civility and intelligence when they had “You Lie” inscribed on the AR-15’s they were selling or at Christmas when they defamed “Silent Night” by using it to advertise silencers for pistols?

Admitting very limited knowledge of guns, the AR-15 seems to be the weapon of choice for those intent on committing mass human carnage. I can’t imagine why anyone other than the military would need such a weapon. Some say they may not want to buy one, but feel they should have the right to. We need to be more than willing to forego a “right” for the greater good if there is a chance it may help prevent these horrific tragedies.

When gun control measures are mentioned, you often hear/see comments that sound as if they believe someone is trying to take away all guns. This is NRA rhetoric. Guns have their place for hunting, protection and sport, but I cannot understand why anyone, no matter their political persuasion, has a problem with much stricter laws or even a ban on the AR-15. The most common argument is that guns are not the problem, people are. Unfortunately, it is way too easy for people with inner demons to obtain these weapons. Other countries, after experiencing mass shootings, have enacted tougher gun laws with effective results.

I believe that those who are adamantly against any kind of stricter gun control would feel differently had one of those slain children been their own.
