Three wins in as many matches last week not only improved the Lugoff-Elgin girls’ soccer team’s record to 7-2 on the season, but it also vaulted Carl Spoto’s squad to the number seven spot in the most recent 4A girls’ soccer poll.

Last Friday night, the Lady Demons won their third straight match while improving to 2-0 in Region 6-4A action with an 8-0 blanking of host Hartsville in a pairing in which the visitors carried a 3-0 lead into halftime.

L-E goalkeeper Madison Guthrie made one save to post her sixth clean sheet this season.

Johanna Garcia led the way for the winners on offense with three goals. Sophia Moschella and Sarah Barnett each netted two with Abby Capps rounding out the scoring with a goal to go along with a pair of assists. Sydney Stanley, Chandler Moore, Ashley Smith and Darcy Belcher doled out an assist each.

Last Wednesday, the Lady Demons defeated visiting rival Camden by the score of 3-1.

In a tight match, L-E’s offense was the difference as the defense held firm most of the night. Moschella and Belcher scored early first half goals, both coming off assists from Smith, to givethe Lady Demons a 2-0 lead at before Camden scored its only goal before intermission to make it a one-goal game.

With five minutes left in the second half and the contest still in doubt, Smith scored on a direct kick to slam the door and insure the win for L-E.

Guthrie was called on to make one save in front of the nets.

The Lady Demons opened conference play last Tuesday with a 7-0 win of Lakewood in Sumter County.

Moschella had a three-goal hat trick in the lopsided victory. Moore, Autumn McIver, Garcia and Stanley also found the back of the net. Kadyn Evan and Smith each had a pair of assists while Belcher and Alicia Werden each lent an assist.

Again, Guthrie registered one save en route to posting her fifth shutout.
