L-E visits CHS for Saturday Dogfest

DogFest: A Celebration of Being a Camden Bulldog, will be held on Saturday, March 24 at Camden High’s American Legion Park.  

The day will feature baseball and softball games with the hosts and hostesses taking on Lugoff-Elgin.

The varsity softball game between the two rivals will be begin at 11 a.m. with the junior varsity game to follow. 

On the baseball diamond, the tripleheader kicks off at 11 a.m. with the CHS vs. L-E jayvee game. The varsity contest is slated for a 1:30 p.m. start with the B team game capping the day with a scheduled 3:30 p.m. first pitch. 

All KCPR&D baseball players wearing their uniform to the contests will be admitted free of charge.

The day will begin with the Camden High JROTC presenting the colors. Buster the Bulldog Mascot will entertain the fans throughout the day and an inflatable jump house and an inflatable slide, provided by 1-2-3 Jump, will be available from noon until 4 p.m. The Kershaw Fine Arts Dancers will perform between the junior varsity and varsity baseball games.

A highlight of DogFest will be a “Diamond in the Rough” game for all ages which will be played after the varsity  baseball game. There is no cost to participate in the contest in which eggs will be scattered around the infield. The participant who finds the “diamond” egg receives a $50 gift certificate.    

Admission to DogFest is $5. Concessions will be sold at CHS baseball’s Bulldog Café with BBQ plates provided by Aberdeen Catery. Kona Ice will sell shaved ice.

In addition, donations will be accepted at the concession stands for fans to make a monetary contribution to the family of Ronnie Timmons, owner of Ronnie’s Ribs in Elgin and a sponsor of Dogfest in previous years. Timmons’ son recently underwent a procedure at MUSC and all donations from Saturday will go toward the Timmons family to assist with their medical bills.

DogFest 2018 is sponsored by Aberdeen Catery, Camden IGA, Coca-Cola and 1-2-3 Jump.
