In order to deal with certain budgetary issues for the next school year, the Kershaw County Board of Trustees moved its regular meeting from last Tuesday to tonight. It will combine its regular meeting with a meeting of its finance-facilities committee, which normally meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month. Regular board meetings are usually held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.

In addition to looking over the most recent financials for the Kershaw County School District (KCSD), the finance-facilities portion of the meeting will take up two facility requests. The first is for the 2019 S.C. United Methodist Church Youth Basketball Tournament, to be held Jan. 11-13, 2019. The tournament is asking to use the Camden High School main gym and wellness center.

The second request was from the Kershaw Baptist Association to use North Central High School for a track meet for church groups ages 5 to 18 back on March 17. It is being brought to the board after the fact.

The board will also hear a presentation of a proposed Fiscal Year 2018-19 general fund budget for information and discussion.

Also on tonight’s agenda:

• A chairman’s report from Chairman Dr. Rev. Jim Smith, to include a report on continued activity from the joint school resource officer/growth ad hoc committee by Trustee Todd McDonald.

• A report from KCSD Superintendent Dr. Frank Morgan, including an update on legislative action on the state budget and legislation regarding school board elections.

• An executive session to discuss “employment matters.”

Today’s meeting will start at 6 p.m. at the district office, 2029 West DeKalb St., Camden, and is open to the public.
