North Central closed out an extremely tight three-hour match against Columbia High School on Tuesday, with the Knights coming away with a 4-3 victory.

The win gave first-year head coach Miranda Brown’s squad a 2-2 record.

The Capitals opened with a 6-3, 6-0 win at first singles as NC’s Josh Bowers faced a seasoned opponent. The second singles match proved to be one in a string of long pairings for the Knights’  Jake Crosby, who has had a series of close matches this season with this being his closest yet. After dropping the first set, 4-6, Crosby turned things around in the second set around winning it, 6-4, to send the match into a tie-breaker which Crosby ultimately lost, 13-15.

Nathan Catoe gave NC a 7-5, 6-2 win at third singles in a match in which he trailed, 5-0, in the opening set only to win the next seven games to get the victory. Michael Rogers suffered a tough 4-6, 7-5 loss at fourth singles before Gavin Oliver swept his fifth singles pairing, 6-0 6-3.

NC’s second doubles duo of Loucas L’Elie and Miles Stukes also enjoyed a win which sent the match into first doubles. Bowers and Crosby made amends for their losses in singles action by combining for a match-clinching 6-3, 6-0 victory.
