KHGC meets Monday

King Haiglar Garden Club will meet on Monday at the home of Cathy Moss. Carol Meckstroth and Carolyn Willens will be co-hostesses.

The program will begin with a tour of Austin Jenkins’ garden and its native species at 3:15 p.m. Members should bring horticulture specimens to Dr. Moss’ house by 3 p.m.

The artistic arrangement should reflect Easter bonnets, bows, bunnies with spring flowers in a basket.

Judges for artistic and horticulture will be Isabel Strickland, Harriett Thomas, Ellen Vaughan, and Marjorie Huntington. Garden Maintenance for April will be Virginia Isler and Jan Tilford.

April’s flower is the daisy, representing good fortune and blissful pleasure.

Gardening Tips for April (Clemson Extension)

Bulbs - you should be planting your summer- and fall-flowering bulbs in April and May, such as dahlias, gladioli , cannas, and lilies.

Be sure to plant after the soil temperature reaches 55 degrees F.

Dividing - it’s time to divide fall blooming perennials.
