Kershaw County Council meets at 5:30 p.m. today in the County Government Center, 515 Walnut St., Camden. Meetings are open to the public.

Council will consider third and final reading of an ordinance to re-establish the Kershaw County Clean Community Commission. The commission, which was launched in the 1980s, accomplished a number of goals and objectives for improving public lands and properties across the county. In recent years, however, it became inactive.

The re-established commission would continue that mission of working with public property only. The proposal calls for the commission to have one representative appointed from each council district as well representatives from the three municipalities in the county.

Council will also consider a proposal to lease a dump truck and front end knuckle loader for the public works department as well as consider awarding a contract for a drainage improvement project for the Pecan Orchard property in West Wateree.

Council will consider passage of resolutions supporting fair housing as well as a resolution supporting Kershaw County as an All-America City finalist.

Council will also consider passage of a proclamation honoring actor and Kershaw County native Samuel E. Wright as well as a proclamation designating April 8-14, 2018 as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in Kershaw County.
