Younghans’ 38 leads CHS golfers to runner-up finish

Freshman Evan Younghans posted a high school-best 38 to lead the Camden High golf team to a second-place finish behind defending 4A state champion A.C. Flora in a Monday afternoon match played over the Camden Country Club layout. 

A.C. Flora won the four-team event with a 147 followed by Camden (162), West Florence (181() and Lugoff-Elgin (198).

On Wenesday, the Bulldogs  (6-4) dropped a dual match in falling to Blythewood, 163-174.

Camden soccer squads shut out Fairfield Central: Receiving goals from six different players, the Camden High boys’ soccer team improved to 4-2 in Region 4-AAA play with a 7-0 win over visiting Fairfield Central in a Tuesday match.

Scoring a goal each for Jerry Jones’ troops were Hunter Webb, Ishair Vera, Nick Marzullo, Randy Kambietz, Jouse Rojas and Ryan Robles.

In Winnsboro on Tuesday, the Lady Bulldog soccer team had an even easier time of things than did their male counterparts as Aaron Mayes and company took down the Lady Griffins, 16-0.

Misha Messinides led the onslaught with three goals while Chloe Grien and Dayton Jeffcoat added two goals each. Also getting into the scoring act with a goal were Venus Sumpter, Daysha Ellis, Cameron Young, Mary Caston Morgan, Pamela Montes, Riley Ellis and Kate Jones.

Leila Long was called on to make one save between the posts to record the shutout.

Lady Bulldogs blast FC: On a night in which Camden High School dedicated and named its softball field in memory of the late former Bulldog standout, Marcus Warren, the Lady Bulldog softball team took care of business by closing out visiting Fairfield Central, 13-2, in a Tuesday night Region 4-AAA game.

Maddie McNeill was the winning pitcher as she struck out seven batters. She also helped her own cause by going 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and two RBI. 

Bri Dow was 2 for 3 with a double and a triple. and three RBI  Anna Claire Frasier went 2-for-3 while Allie Phillips was 2-for-2 with three RBI.
