Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) deputies arrested a county man for breaking into vehicles during worship services in the Westville area on Sunday.

According to a KCSO press release, deputies arrested Casey Maurice Frierson, 38, of Sheffield Road, Elgin, and charged him with receiving stolen goods, possession of a handgun by a person convicted of a violent crime and possession of a stolen handgun.

According to the press release, dispatchers sent deputies to two churches in the Westville community shortly after noon on Sunday following reports of vehicles being broken into while the owners were in church. Responding deputies obtained a description of a suspect vehicle, described as a black Dodge pickup truck. One of the many items stolen was a smartphone with locater services activated.

The owner of the phone advised deputies the phone indicated it was at a location in the Camden city limits. Deputies proceeded to Camden and notified the Camden Police Department (CPD) to be on the lookout for the pickup, providing them with a possible location. CPD officers spotted the truck at the Gate gas station on West DeKalb Street and identified Frierson as the driver. The Camden officers detained Frierson until county deputies arrived a short time later.

A deputy advised Frierson of his rights, and he immediately requested an attorney. Another deputy spotted stolen property inside the pickup truck and placed a call to one of the stolen mobile phones, which rang from inside the truck. Deputies then placed Frierson under arrest and transported him to the Kershaw County Detention Center where he awaits a bond hearing.

According to the KCSO, Frierson has an extensive criminal record with arrests in South Carolina for burglary, grand larceny, breaking into a motor vehicle, multiple counts of simple possession of marijuana, numerous fraudulent checks charges, multiple possession of a stolen vehicle charges, interference/hindering officers, multiple financial identity fraud charges, forgery, shoplifting, possession of controlled substances, giving false information and traffic offenses. Authorities in New Mexico, previously arrested Frierson for trafficking controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia, multiple forgery cases, larceny, theft of credit card and possession of stolen credit card.
