Clinton closes out Dogs in semifinals

Defending 3A Upper State tennis champion Clinton will return to Saturday’s state finals after having defeated visiting Camden, 6-0, in Wednesday’s AAA Upper State championship match.

Th loss ended the Bulldogs’ postseason run which opened with Col. Tim Webb’s squad earning a first round bye before disposing of Chapman, 5-1, in a second round pairing.

On Monday, the Bulldogs received wins from Wilson Pope, K.P. Cassidy and Robert Lackey in first through third singles, respectively, while the second doubles tandem of Will Cox and Will Galloway recorded a win in a 4-2 victory over Powdersville to sent the Dogs into Wednesday’s AAA Upper State title pairing.

Clinton will meet Lower State champion Bishop England in Saturday’s finale at the Cayce Tennis Center.
