Tryouts for the James Leroy Belk Kershaw County Post 17 Senior American Legion baseball team will be held on Monday through Wednesday, May 14-1, beginning at 6 p.m. each night at American Legion Park in Camden.

The Post 17 Junior American Legion tryouts will be held Monday through Friday, May 14-18, also at American Legion Park in Camden beginning at 3:30 p.m.

The 17ers senior squad will be under the direction of first-year head coach Stephen Carmon, who was an assistant on the staff of Tyler Pike the past two seasons. A 10th round draft pick by the San Diego Padres coming out of USC-Aiken in 2012, Carmon played three seasons of minor league ball.

The Camden native and former Camden High and Post 17 standout was an assistant coach on the 17ers’ 2016 squad which finished second in that year’s American Legion State Tournament in Sumter.

According to American Legion Baseball age eligibility chart, 2017 high school graduates must have appeared on a previous approved American Legion team roster to be eligible for the 2018 season. Players shall not be eligible for transfer or waivers. Players born in 1999 or 2000, must play in the Senior Legion Baseball program. Players (age 12 and under) born in 2006 and after are not eligible to play American Legion Baseball. Players born in 1998 or before are no longer eligible to play American Legion Baseball.

Among the major changes in Senior American Legion baseball for this summer are that games will be seven-inning contests, rather than nine innings. The state playoffs, which in the past were best-of-five series, have now been reduced to best-of-three.

All prospective players should be on time and be ready to practice for all sets of tryouts.
