Letter: Minor correction to fine coverage

Please accept my compliments for the extra fine work covering The Wall That Heals by the Chronicle-Independent. It was an overwhelming event for thousands, especially yours truly. I am of the opinion that historic correctness is essential for such events, and those of our city’s storied past. With that said, I must report to your readers a minor error in your excellent front page story appearing in the Tuesday edition of the C-I.

The depiction of my school year experience with the late Larry Jeffers was slightly incorrect. I never participated in a CHS football practice. The event took place at a Camden “Junior” High School football practice. I was never talented enough to play varsity football. My athletic prowess was limited to punting, kicking and riding the bench. However, I am proud to say that I did “play” in the Shrine Bowl. At half time, as a member of the Grand Champion Camden High School Marching Band, I had a brief solo. Fortunately for me, I was much better at playing the trumpet than avoiding a tackle from Larry, or anyone else.

In conclusion, please permit me to state, that we must never forget those souls etched on the wall. Its appearance here adds to Camden’s sterling history. A history that is all around us, above us, beneath us, but more importantly, inside of us.
