FLORENCE --- Camden’s Brooke Dixon, a member of the Francis Francis Marion University women’s basketball team, was one of three Patriot student-athletes to have earned Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports-Scholar Awards for 2018.

The honors are presented by Diverse magazine, a publication that addresses issues in higher education. Dixon was one of only three student-athletes from the Palmetto State and two of only 18 from Peach Belt Conference to appear on any of the 19 sports recognized by the magazine. Dixon was a third-team women’s basketball honoree.

A three-year letterwinner and former standout basketball player at Camden High for head coach Natalie Jeffcoat, Dixon has compiled a 3.54 GPA as an education major.

Dixon, a junior at FMU, is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership honor society, Chi Alpha Sigma national college athlete honor society, and Kappa Delta Pi education honor society. She has been named to the PBC Presidential Honor Roll and the FMU Swamp Fox Athletic-Academic Honor Roll on every possible occasion during her time at Francis Marion.

A 2015 Camden High graduate, Dixon averaged 14.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game as a senior following a junior campaign in which she averaged 9.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.2 steals per game.

Off the court at CHS, Dixon was a member of the National Honor Society and was elected senior class president. She was also a member of the Beta Club and four-year member of the Student Council.
