Former Lugoff-Elgin High principals and head football coaches, Willie Mickle and Creig Tyler, will be honored by the school at tonight’s “Legends Night” ceremony to be held in conjunction with the Demons’ home football game against Lexington at L-E Stadium.

The two men will be honored with a pre-game reception, to be held inside the school cafeteria from 6 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. All former players, teaching/coaching colleagues and friends are invited to attend the celebration.

Mickle was named as L-E’s first head football coach in 1974. In his three seasons on the Demons’ sideline, he led the team to a 17-13 record. He would later go on to be named as the school’s principal.

Tyler, ironically, is the current principal at Lexington High School. Prior to that, he was the principal at Lugoff-Elgin. Before going into administration, Tyler was the Demons’ head football coach --- and, Mickle’s successor ---from 1977 through 1982. Under Tyler, L-E went 34-32 including winning the Region 3-AA championships in 1980 and 1981, winning 21 of 25 games those two seasons. Those are the only two conference titles won by Demon football teams. Tyler was also selected as the state’s coach of the year in 1980.

The two men will also be honored with a ceremony during halftime of tonight’s game.
