Three games to win one.

That is the scenario for the Kershaw County American Legion team to lock up its first League III championship in many a year.

Post 17 opens a three-game regular season-ending stretch tonight when Orangeburg comes to American Legion Field at 7 p.m.

A win over Post 4 this evening would clinch the league title for the hosts who have swept their series with both Sumter and Lexington. Zac Branham (2-1) is expected to get the starting nod on the mound for the 17ers this evening.

KC closes out its regular season home slate on Thursday against Dalzell-Shaw before traveling to Orangeburg on Friday for its regular season finale.

Post 17 will have next week off to prepare for the first round of the best-of-five state playoffs which begin on Monday, July 9.

As of now, the state playoffs have League III teams squaring off in first and second round pairings; assuring the seven-team circuit of having a representative in the double-elimination state tournament which begins at home field sites on Tuesday, July 24 before moving onto Spirit Communications Park in Columbia on July 25-27.

If the state playoffs opened today, P-17 would face Hartsville in round one while Lexington and Sumter would be in the bottom half of the bracket. The winners will square off in round two.
