Camden City Council will meet in executive session near the end of its meeting tonight in order to discuss a personnel matter. Immediately thereafter, in open session, council will consider a resolution authorizing Mayor Alfred Mae Drakeford to executive an employment agreement between the city and City Manager Mel Pearson.

Pearson became permanent city manager in February 2013 after serving in an interim capacity following former City Manager Kevin Bronson’s decision to work for the city of Rock Hill. He previously served as the city’s finance director.

Also on tonight’s agenda:

• Council will present certificates of recognition to Neal Gainey and Jerry Marthers.

• Council will take up second and final reading of an ordinance executing an incentive agreement with Bright-Meyers 2001 LLC of Georgia in connection with the company’s efforts to purchase and redevelop River Oaks Shopping Center on West DeKalb Street, the former home of Kmart. During its previous meeting two weeks ago, council approved first reading of an ordinance annexing the property into the city. Second and final reading of that ordinance is not on tonight’s agenda.

• However, council will take up second and final reading of an ordinance assigning final zoning classification of high density residential R6 to a property recently annexed on Black River Road. Plans are to convert the property into a residential subdivision.

• Council will also consider the city’s Hospitality Tax and Accommodation Tax committees’ recommendations for disbursement of those funds for the 2019 fiscal year, which started July 1.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. on the second floor of Camden City Hall, 1000 Lyttleton St., and is open to the public.
