Golf, football and wrestling camps close summer slate

Here is the list of youth sports camps scheduled in Kershaw County for the weeks of July 16 and July 23:

Golf Camp: Learn the fundamentals of golf or improve your skills in this camp. Matt McCarley, PGA professional and head golf pro at the Camden Country Club will direct the four-day session.  Beginners through advance golfers are welcome. 

Dates: July 16 - 19 - Monday through Thursday

Location: Camden Country Club, Knights Hill Road in Camden

Ages: 7 - 17 years old 

Hours:  8 a.m. – 10 a.m. 

Cost: $85 per camper 

Pre-registration: Through the Kershaw County Parks and Recreation Department at 425-6009

Little Bulldog Football Camp: Learn the fundamentals of football and improve your skills in this camp as directed by members of the Camden High School football coaching staff. Daily training sessions will include all aspects of defense and offense. Instructing the camp will be the Camden High football staff and players. No football equipment needed. Campers are asked to wear cleats and bring a water bottle. The camp is sponsored by Vonnie Holliday, a former Camden High School and NFL standout. 

Dates: July 23 - 26        

Location: Camden High School Gym 

Cost: $35 per child (includes T-shirt) 

Ages: 7 - 14 years old 

Hours: 9 a.m. - noon

Lugoff-Elgin Wrestling Camp: The Lugoff-Elgin High school wrestling program is offering its second three-day summer mini-camp session --- open to wrestlers of all levels of experience from the kindergarten through eighth grade --- to be held July 24-26. The camp is conducted by L-E head wrestling coach Ted Monroe and former Demon head wrestling coach Kevin Knoerr. Monroe has fashioned a 306-28 record as head coach both at L-E High School and L-E Middle School. While at L-E Middle, the two-time state placer at Belton-Honea Path who was part of the Bears’ 1987 AAA state championship team, led the L-EMS Leopards to eight state championships in his 12 seasons at the school. 

Knoerr guided L-E to the 2003 AAA state title and led the Demons to a pair of runner-up spots in 1998 and 2002. A former state champion wrestler at Edisto High School, Knoerr was the South Carolina State High School Wrestling Coach of the Year in 1998.

Dates: July 24-26

Time: 9 a.m. - noon

Location: Lugoff-Elgin High School mini-gym

Cost: $40 

What to wear:  Shorts, T-shirt and either wrestling shoes or tennis shoes
