As students get ready for a new school year, the cost of school supplies makes it difficult for some families to purchase needed items.

Again this year, Sonic of Lugoff and Camden and Fred’s Pharmacy customers can help with that need for Kershaw County families through the “Fill A Bus” campaign which starts July 30 and runs through Aug. 4.

“It is great to see the support that our schools have from the community,” Kershaw County School District Superintendent Dr. Shane Robbins said. “Sonic and Fred’s are stepping up again to make it easy for people to purchase school supplies for our students who otherwise would not have them.  This is a great way to help a young person get a good start to the new school year.”

Sonic in both Lugoff and Camden and Fred’s will have bins inside their locations to collect school supplies for a week starting July 30. Persons dropping off supplies at both Sonic locations during the week will receive a special coupon, and Fred’s will have free refreshments for customers on Aug. 5.

“We had a lot of fun with this last year, and it’s a great program to help out our young people,” said Sonic Owner Kevin Wilburn. “We appreciate our customers’ generosity to help us fill a bus with school supplies.”

Fred’s Manager Stephanie Grant agreed.

“This is an easy way to help a child get a good start for the school year. We are glad to be a part of this community effort,” she said.

To show appreciation to persons who donate, representatives from each of the 20 Kershaw County School District schools will serve as Sonic Celebrity Car Hops and Fred’s Pharmacy Greeters on Saturday, Aug. 4 on the following schedule:
