For the second time in five months, Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) narcotics investigators arrested an alleged methamphetamine dealer.

According to a KCSO press release, investigators arrested Cody Russell Greene, 23, of Vista View Drive, Elgin, and charged him with trafficking 400 grams or more of methamphetamine.

In the press release, Sheriff Jim Matthews said that on the morning of July 26, KCSO narcotics investigators received a tip that Greene was in possession of a relatively large quantity of meth and would be transporting it to a residence in Lugoff. Investigators located and followed Greene, who was driving a 2014 Dodge Challenger. Greene detected surveillance and fled at a high rate of speed, but the deputies did not pursue as they had a good idea where Greene was going.

Instead, deputies proceeded to the Lugoff residence and intercepted him there as he pulled in behind the house. Greene fled on foot and discarded a plastic bag which was later determined to contain nearly a pound of meth. Investigators found Greene -- who had circled back and gone into the house on Woods Lane -- and arrested him at that time, transporting him to the Kershaw County Detention Center.

Back in March 2018, KCSO narcotics investigators arrested Greene when he was also found to be in possession of more than a pound of methamphetamine, a small quantity of heroin and a handgun. He was charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute heroin, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. He was transported to jail and released on bond, but went right back to dealing methamphetamine.

Narcotics investigators also stopped Greene on July 17 after receiving information that he was transporting meth on a 4-wheeler. When they stopped him, deputies found no drugs, but did seize $5,000 Greene had with him.

Other than the previously mentioned charges, the KCSO said Greene has been previously arrested for driving under suspension, pointing and presenting a firearm, malicious injury to personal property, breaking into a motor vehicle, shoplifting, possession of cocaine and a firearms charge.

Greene’s charges are being referred to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for federal prosecution.
