Pine Tree Hill Elementary School (PTHS) Principal Melissa Royalty, as the Queen of Hearts (center), and Kershaw County School District Superintendent Dr. Shane Robbins, lead a parade of teachers down PTHS’s main hallway as administrators dressed as playing cards, students and parents applaud. The playing card motif is based on a book the PTHS staff read this year, “The Wild Card: 7 Steps to an Educator’s Creative Breakthrough,” by Hope and Wade King. Their concept is that teachers “are the wild card that can make a difference” in students’ lives. The parade ended in the PTHS multipurpose room where Royalty and Robbins spoke to teachers and announced that music teacher Angie Lawson successfully applied for a $21,000 arts grant for the school, details of which will be announced later in the week.
