Thomas Austin did not stay unemployed for very long.

Austin, the former Camden High and Clemson University standout, signed with the New England Patriots on Wednesday.
The three-time Super Bowl champion added the 6-foot-4, 310-pound offensive guard to their eight-man practice squad.

Austin, a 2005 CHS graduate who played both guard and center for Clemson, was originally signed by the Minnesota Vikings as a rookie free agent on April 24, 2010. He was waived by Minnesota  following the final cuts following exhibition games, when teams were pared to 53 players on their active roster on Sept. 4.

The Vikings then signed Austin to their practice squad before releasing him.

Austin was a third-team All-America selection by the Sporting News in 2009 and was a second-team All-ACC selection as both a junior (2008) and senior.

The three-year letterwinner at both CHS and Clemson, Austin started his final 38 games in college for the Tigers.
