Some of the 1,000 or more people who visited Kershaw County’s proposed riverfront park in Lugoff on Aug. 18 walk back up from a landing at the Wateree River (first picture) while others in the background enjoy the view as several kayakers paddle by. In the second picture, several people look over and discuss one of three plans for the 35-acre site. At least two of the plans include an amphitheater for concerts and other live events. The one shown here also included the possibility of soccer fields. County officials and volunteers asked the public for input on the three proposals during the six-hour event. Visitors also got to enjoy food vendors, a rescue helicopter on display and information booths from local agencies, including Historic Camden, the county library and the Humane Society, to name a few. They could also walk along a woodland trail circumnavigating the perimeter of the site, which featured views of Twenty-Five Mile Creek as well as the Wateree River.
