Kershaw County Council will take a first look at a rezoning request for a parcel on Ft. Jackson Road during tonight’s meeting.

The 3.74 acre parcel is located at 2672 Ft. Jackson Rd. in Elgin. Currently zoned RD-2, which is a rural resource district, the property owner is requesting a General Development (GD) zoning designation. The property is located at a high-traffic intersection and has industrial developments south of its location.  The Kershaw County Planning Commission recommended approval of the rezoning.

While no future development plans have been submitted as of yet, the property owner has indicated possible interest in building a gas station on the property.

Council will also consider appointments to the Clean Community Commission as well as take up the subject of replacing existing county signage. Council will also hear a presentation from Ron Jarosz regarding the Kershaw County Amateur Radio Operators Club. Council will also receive a presentation of the All-America City trophy from Laurey Carpenter, executive director of the PLAY Foundation, which spearheaded the effort to apply for All-America City status.

Kershaw County Council meets at 5:30 p.m. today in the County Government Center, 515 Walnut St. Camden. Meetings are open to the public.
