Labor Day is a special time of year for this former union worker that made my working and retirement years with Jesus, the Messiah, name above all names blessings over and beyond my dreams.

In my early teenage years, I was truly blessed to migrate to the Garden State in the early 1950s, in the midst of the American Productivity Revolution. And I truly learned the importance of industrial and technical education.

It was a time of change for the better in a country that was resistant to change.

A union is no different than any other organization. It has some woes.

During my many years in the Garden State, I was blessed to be taught to see not only unity in labor, but also beauty and dignity. It was an era where three out of every five cars on American highways was a General Motors or Ford Motor Company-made vehicle made by union workers.

I prayed and hoped that if I was successful in the line of industrial and technical training, I could lay a foundation upon which my children and grandchildren could grow to higher and more important things in life.

It was also an era during which union workers were truly blessed to send our children to higher education without any government assistance.

America’s education system has always been in the hands of the elite.

I call my union working years “chasing the American Dream -- a life worth living.”
