Camden presented first-year girls’ head tennis coach Pamela Smoak with her first victory as the Lady Bulldogs opened their season by knocking off visiting 5A rival Sumter, 5-1, in a match played on the Roger Smoak Tennis Courts at CHS.

A strong gathering of fans turned out for the opening match in which the hostesses won second through fifth singles along with second doubles.

Sumter took first singles with Whitney Crawford stopping Imani Wyatt, 6-2, 6-3.

It was all Camden from there as Anne Margaret Hutto handed Jordan Shuping a 6-2, 6- 1 defeat at second singles. Lexi Setzer then outlasted against Burgess Dubose, 7-6, 6-4, at third singles.

The Lady Bulldogs had little trouble after that with Emily Guy handing Carmen Carrigan  pair of 6-1 setbacks at fourth singles before Eliza Reames closed out singles action by taking down Andrea Clarke, 6-1, 6-2

Camden also won the lone doubles pairing of the evening as Mary Dawson Lindsay and Jenna McKoy combined stop the Lady Gamecock duo of  Madelyn Jordan and Karyn Dickerson, 6-1, 6-3

“I was proud of them. And, also very thankful for a great turnout,” Smoak said after her team started the season with a victory
