The new season for the Camden Garden Club will begin on Monday, September 10, at the home of Jane Arnold. The club and its officers have been very busy over the summer months. Members were responsible for watering and fertilizing the beautiful fuchsia bogavilla that are planted on the corners of Dekalb and Broad streets, and Rutledge and Broad streets. The club officers coordinated the hostesses and judges for each month as well as where we would be meeting, the programs that we will have, and then they put together the handbook for the upcoming year.

The speaker for September will be Matt Johnson, education director for Audubon South Carolina. His program will be “Birds, Audubon, Us: Identifying and Helping Birds in South Carolina and Beyond.” It will focus on how to identify many of our common backyard birds and will provide an overview of the most suitable native plants to include in our yards.

Members are also asked to bring in specimens from their own gardens and make arrangements with suggested themes. Throughout the year, they will accumulate points for yearend awards. The judges this month will be Chairman Jill Bettendorf, Alice Thaxton and Joanna Craig.

After the program and the judges’ report, hostess chairman Amy Cantey, along with help from Sarah Reed and Carol Kent will put out a spread of delightful tea sandwiches, tasty tidbits, and out of this world deserts!
