Lady Knights come home second in Sumter SpikeOff Tourney

NC’S PEYTON HOLLEY earned all-tourney honors in Sumter on Saturday.

More than 10 hours after starting play in Saturday’s Sumter SpikeOff Tourney, the North Central volleyball team came home second to champion Orangeburg-Wilkinson in the 15-team event.

The Lady Knights won their pool by knocking off 4A Marlboro County, 5A White Knoll, 5A Irmo and 5A Carolina Forest all by identical 2-0 scores.

Andy Johnson’s squad then, again, beat White Knoll in the quarterfinals in two sets before blanking Carolina Forest in two sets in the semifinals to set up a meeting with Orangeburg-Wilkinson in the best-of-three finale which began at 10 p.m.

The Lady Bruins won the first set, 25-18, before NC took the second, 28-26. O-W secured the title in edging the Lady Knights, 16-14 in the third set tie-breaker with ended at 11:15 p.m.

North Central outside hitter Alayna Johnson and Libero Peyton Holley were named to the All-Tournament team.

The Lady Knights returned to regular season and Region 4-AA action on Tuesday with a trip to Lewisville to take on last year’s state class A champions who made the move into the AA ranks this season.

The visitors returned home with a three-set sweep winning, 25-14, 25-12 and 25-11, to improve to 7-0 in dual matches and 5-0 in conference matches.

Johnson led the way at the next with 16 kills. The freshman added seven digs and five service aces. Setter Aaliyah White dished out 28 assists to go along with six digs and an ace while Holley had a dozen digs, four aces, three assists and a pair of kills.

McKenna Arrants had an eight-kill, two-dig night. Rhi Hendrix had seven kills and a pair of assists while Madison Dixon had five digs, four aces, two kills and an assist.
