It’s official – and it’s exciting.

Marshall’s and Hobby Lobby have both officially signed leases to come to Camden.

Both are very popular, large chain stores and both will be coming to River Oaks Shopping Center, site of the former KMart store in Camden. They will be locating in an area that has already seen a good bit of development from chain businesses. They will undoubtedly add revenue to our tax base and they will absolutely bolster an up and coming area of town.

While neither store will be here any time real soon -- Hobby Lobby has indicated they will open in June 2019 -- the fact that they are coming bodes well for Camden and for Kershaw County.

While we love, treasure and support our local businesses, we also welcome these newcomers to our community. Diversity is a good thing, as is an infusion of “new blood.” Kershaw County needs choices and these will certainly add to those choices -- and they shouldn’t put any pressure on anyone locally.

So, welcome to the neighborhood -- we’ll look forward to many mutually successful years.
