Author and speaker Langston Moore, who played in the NFL for seven years, autographs a poster for L-EHS senior Mehki Kennedy after the assembly.

Authors and USC alumni Langston Moore and Preston Thorne visited Lugoff-Elgin High School Oct. 4 to share the message from their children’s book #JustaChicken with students. Before the school-wide assembly, select student athletes were able to have breakfast with the authors. Then, during the assembly, Moore and Thorne talked to the students about the importance of approaching life with a grateful attitude as well as setting goals and living life on purpose.

“The assembly was fantastic,” Langley Whisenhunt, junior, said. “I really enjoyed learning about how to W.I.N. [What’s Important Now] and actually being able to think about my blessings, my accomplishments and my future goals.”

Following the assembly, the authors signed merchandise for students and teachers and continued to offer encouraging messages. L-EHS Librarian Anne Lemieux, who coordinated the event, said she was pleased with its success.

“This was the best author visit I have ever hosted,” Lemieux said. “The positive message really hit home with the students and teachers. The message was timely, relevant, exciting, applicable and thought provoking. The students really enjoyed discussing goals and taking photos with our authors.”
