A man riding a motorcycle died following a collision with an automobile Friday afternoon in east Camden.

According to a short statement issued by Kershaw County Coroner David West, Kershaw County 911 received a call at 2:45 p.m. Friday about an auto vs. motorcycle collision at 1311 Jefferson Davis Hwy.

“The motorcycle was headed south toward Camden and the auto was headed north,” West said in the press release. “The auto was turning left off of Jefferson Davis Hwy.”

West identified the deceased as James Lee Gardner, 46, from the Kershaw area, and said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“He was not wearing a helmet,” West said in the press release.

The S.C. Highway Patrol placed no information on its media phone messaging service about the collision, although West said Friday it was still under investigation by troopers.
