With food, fun and games, Midway Elementary School celebrated an achievement Principal Charles King said he has not experienced at any other school where he has served as an administrator: No disciplinary referrals during the first nine weeks of school. King and reading coach, Sherri Johnson said they attributed the fact that not a single student had to be referred to their offices for disciplinary purposes during the first nine weeks to the students themselves. “These are the most open, accepting kids I’ve ever worked with,” King said. Johnson agreed, also complimenting their families for teaching them to say “please,” “thank you,” “yes, ma’am” and “yes, sir.” Kindergarteners were among all the school’s students who enjoyed eating an assortment of food served by teachers and volunteers. Older students also played kickball as teachers, volunteers and fellow students cheered them on.
