The James Leroy Belk American Legion Post 17 hosted its annual Veterans Day program Nov. 9. Despite gray skies and damp conditions, the program was well-attended and featured participation from a number of elected officialss; veterans groups; JROTC units from Camden High School, North Central High School and Camden Military Academy; and the Camden High School band. Part of the ceremony is the laying of wreaths to recognize the county’s three Medal of Honor recipients, John C. Villepigue, Richmond Hobson Hilton and Donald Leroy Truesdell. Joey Hilton Baker is pictured here with the wreath for Hilton. The keynote speaker for the ceremony was Brig. Gen. Brad Owens, director of the joint staff of the S.C. National Guard.
