Looking for an alternative to the fast-paced, consumer-focused holiday season? How about a feast with friends? Lugoff-Elgin High School (L-EHS) is proud to present its fourth annual Madrigal Dinner, a Renaissance-style holiday banquet and performance celebration on Dec. 14 and 15.

A 16th century pre-Christmas celebration, Madrigal Dinners were hosted by the wealthy for their friends featuring lavish food, decorations and entertainment.

“The L-EHS Madrigal Dinner is a comedy, play and concert -- all in one,” said L-EHS Chorus Director Michael Johnson.  “We recreate the regal elegance of the Renaissance past through costumes, feast and pageantry.”

Johnson said that participants will be served a multi-course meal while enjoying the music of a chamber ensemble comprised of L-EHS students.  Made by chef Rick Tyson, the meal begins with a beverage, bread and salad, which is followed by lentil soup. Following “The Boar’s Head Carol,” participants will enjoy a main course of roast turkey breast, oven roasted red potatoes and green beans as well as apple crisp with ice cream. As the story comes to an end, guests are treated to a short concert.

This year’s Madrigal Dinner will be held at Lugoff-Elgin Middle School at 7 p.m. on Dec. 14 and 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 15.  Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at
