Students enrolled in the Applied Technology Education Campus (ATEC) health science program won numerous honors in statewide health occupations competition for high schools held recently in North Charleston. ATEC did very well in the career health display category with four teams placing in the top six out of 63 teams. The competition is sponsored by the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), a national leadership organization for students enrolled in health science and nursing programs. Winning first-place honors in career health display were Courtney Johnson and Rebecca Prewitt. They will represent South Carolina at the HOSA National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, Calif., June 21-26. Other ATEC winners in the career health display category were Hannah Spears and Brittany Kelley, who captured third place. Charlie Greathead and Kaylee Boone finished fourth. Kayla Langley and Zach Hughes took fifth place. In other competition, Zoe Mullins-Bracey, Clarissa Agee and Brittany Eleazer placed third in the health education category. ATEC’s students were accompanied to North Charleston by health science instructor Kathy Vidal and parent chaperones Kim Johnson and Donna Langley. “We are very proud of our health science students here at ATEC,” says director Chet Horton. “They excel not only in the classroom but also outside the classroom in competitions like this.” Health science students winning honors at the HOSA conference were (first row) Kayla Langley, Brittany Eleazer, Kaylee Boone, Rebecca Prewitt and Brittany Kelley.
