After 20 years as a solo physician, Dr. Linda C McLeod, OB/GYN, is joining Sentinel Health Partners where she will partner with doctors Leland H. King and John L Moore. McLeod said she is making the move in response to the economy’s effect on the health care industry.

“There’s been a change in how medicine is going these days,” McLeod said. “Overhead is up and reimbursements are down. It’s tougher to go solo now.”

McLeod received her M.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and performed her residency at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital.

“I moved here (Camden) in 1991 and joined Dr. (Paul) Wood when I first got here,” said McLeod.

Wood, who passed away in February 2007, was the county’s first OB/GYN. McLeod took over the practice when Wood retired. She said she is looking forward to formalizing a relationship she has had with King for more than 10 years.

“We’ve covered each other’s calls, and Dr. King delivered my children,” McLeod said.

She said they work well together, with similar styles in some areas and diverse in others.

“We’re both ‘chatty Cathys,’” McLeod said, “but I’m pretty laid back and not as punctual. I don’t wear a watch. He’s punctual; we complement each other.”

McLeod said the move won’t change anything for her patients except where they go to see her. McLeod is in the process of moving from her Fair Street office to King and Moore’s office on Roberts Street across from KershawHealth.

“We will be maintaining a continuance of care. With the economy, I’ve had to juggle some things; now, I won’t have to juggle things as much,” McLeod said. “I always wanted to be solo. I guess I’m throwing in the towel, but I’m looking for a good outcome.

“It’s an interesting transition.”
