Phyllis Palmer Tait passed away on April 30, 2011, at the Bay Village retirement community in Sarasota, Florida. She had a lung ailment. She was 89 years old. Her husband of 65 years, George P. Tait, passed away in March 2009.

She married George Tait in August 1943 shortly before he sailed for England with the 4th Infantry Division. She completed her studies at Vassar College and graduated in 1944.

Phyllis accompanied her husband through his graduate work and career with the DuPont Corporation, rearing three children (and several cats). She was a teacher, tutor of special needs children, and actress and director of community theater productions.

The family lived in Camden from 1953 – 1963 while George worked at the May Plant. Robert., Richard, and Amy attended the Camden public schools.

Phyllis and George retired to Venice FL in 1978 and moved to Bay Village in 1998. Phyllis was a volunteer guide at Selby Gardens and tutor at Laurel Community Center. They attended Venice Presbyterian Church and the First Presbyterian Church of Sarasota.

Phyllis is survived by her three children Robert, Richard, and Amy; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

A memorial service at Bay Village is being planned. Those wishing to make gifts in her memory should consider making them to the charity of their choice or the American Red Cross.
