Just as the name says, the Garden Club of South Carolina Inc. plans to “Follow the Blooms” beginning May 14 in Camden.

This statewide tour will span the entire state and run through May 22.

“Our goal was to locate gardens around the state that were unique in variety and location,” Co-chairman Judith Dill of Camden, said.

“Many gardeners outside South Carolina only know about gardens in Charleston and Aiken,” Dill said. “South Carolina has so much more to offer.”

Dill said the gardens on the tour were selected by their history, horticulture and landscape design.

“These are gardens that represent a true picture of South Carolina,” she said.  “This is the biggest bargain for gardeners in South Carolina. It’s nine wonderful days.”

The tour, which will run from May 14 to 22, cost $50 per person and it includes more than 35 private gardens in various regions in the Palmetto State.

Each region from the foothills to the sea has its own character, culture, and sights. Formal gardens, city and country gardens, plantations and secret gardens in the cities, towns and hamlets of Camden, Fort Motte, Winnsboro, Saint Matthews, Simpsonville, Enoree, Woodruff, Columbia, North Augusta, Sumter, Greenville and Marion will be featured in this unprecedented statewide event. Seasoned gardeners and dilatants alike will treat their senses to the truly beautiful countryside, historic towns and gardens underneath the blue skies of South Carolina.

In addition to the tours, participants will meet garden designers and artisans, attend luncheon seminars by local personalities, shop plant sales and enjoy box lunches.

The proceeds of this tour benefits the educational and cultural efforts of The Garden Club of South Carolina, Inc. a non-profit organization that promotes all aspects of gardening, focusing on preservation of historic gardens, conservation and environmental protection of natural resources, education of members and youth organizations, civic beautification, horticulture and floral design.
