Funeral services honoring the life of Earl Merle Kersey, 91, of Camden, will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Camden Ward. Burial will follow in Quaker Cemetery. Bishop Foy Connell and Wayne Joyner will officiate. Active pallbearers will be Jerry, David, Brian and Christopher Kersey, Bobby Peebles and Ray Bare. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Monday, May 9, 2011 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. Memorials may be made in Mr. Kersey’s memory to the American Cancer Society, c/o Gail Kirkland, 647 Lachicotte Rd., Lugoff, SC 29078.

Mr. Kersey, widower of the late Levine Raley Kersey, died Saturday, May 7, 2011. Born in Polk County, FL, he was the son of the late James Dalton and Katie DeVane Kersey. Mr. Kersey served in the U. S. Army during World War II in the 88th Infantry Division in Italy. He was a retired pipefitter, a member of Local UA 421, American Legion Post 17, Forty & Eight and Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Camden Ward.

Surviving are his children: Earl J. Kersey (Brenda) of Camden, Edward M. Kersey (Cathy Jo) of Camden, Geraldine Whitten of Mobile, AL, Katie Peebles, Kathy Shirey and Kenneth D. Kersey (Joyce) and Paula J. Bare (Kevin) all of Camden, Tammy Vincent (Joey) of Kershaw, Bobby Russell of Cleveland, OH, Richard Russell (Nancy) of Aurora, CO; 23 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; brother, Van Kersey (Joyce) of Lake Wales, FL. He was predeceased by his daughter, Joann Napper, sons-in-law, Lamar Whitten, Robert L. Peebles and Tuffy Shirey, 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
