Robert M. Marsh, Sr., 81, of Camden died Monday, May 9, 2011.Born in Kershaw County, he was the son of the late Edgar McLean, Sr. and Sarah Mickle Marsh. He attended Kershaw County schools. Mr. Marsh joined the National Guard and was called to active duty in 1950. After a tour in Korea, he returned to Camden and married Polly Padgett in 1952. He worked with DuPont for 7 years and returned to full time farming in 1961. Farming was the love of his life. During these years, he was a Sunday school teacher, Cub Scout leader, and in the 60’s, helped establish Joseph Kershaw Academy. He was an active supporter of their sports programs. Mr. Marsh was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He continued to farm with his 3 sons and in 1983, along with son Robert, established HoField Garden.

He is survived by his wife, Polly of 58 years; sons, Robert, Jr. and his wife Jan of Camden, Woodell and his wife Gail of Rembert, Will and his wife Vicky of Rembert; daughters, Katherine Wolfram and her husband William of Niskayuna, NY, Cynthia Cook and her husband Jimmy of Greenwood, Sue Hardin and her husband Grover of Camden; a sister, Esther M. Gale of Camden; 7 grandsons, 8 granddaughters and 2 great-grandsons. He was predeceased by brothers, William Raleigh, Samuel Mickle and Edgar McLean, Jr. (Shorty). The family will welcome visitors at the Marsh home from 5:00 to 7:.00 PM Wednesday, May 11.

Graveside services will be at Quaker Cemetery at 4:00 PM Thursday, May 12. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kershaw Health Hospice, 1315 Roberts Street, Camden, SC 29020 .
