'Kids in the Kitchen' workshops slated

Youngsters ages 9 to 16 will become junior chefs at the "Kids in the Kitchen" 4-H workshops to be held in June.

The first program, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 14-15, will be held at the Kershaw County Homemakers Building, 634 W. DeKalb St., Camden. Youth will learn about kitchen basics and safety, the importance of hand washing, measuring dry and liquid ingredients, table manners, food pyramid, nutrition/fitness and basic food preparation.

The cost is $20 per participant, and the non-refundable payment is due by June 6.

The second workshop will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 28-29, also at the Homemakers Building. The first day will focus on jams and jellies and basic food preservation. The second day will highlight quick breads. Youth will learn kitchen basics and safety, the importance of hand washing, measuring dry and liquid ingredients, preserving fruits and vegetables and how to make fruit jelly and a variety of quick breads.

The cost for this workshop is also $25, with the non-refundable payment due by June 20.

A light lunch is included with each workshop. Call 432-9071 to pre-register. The class is limited to 15 youth.
