Allen Preston Peters of Camden, South Carolina has passed away at the age of 56. He lost his long hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer on the morning of May 17, 2011 at the William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Hospital in Columbia. Born May 10, 1955 in Ronceverte, WV, he was the son of Betty Shires Peters and the late Louie H. Peters.  Mr. Peters spent his childhood and teenage years in Oak Hill, WV. He attended Collins High School where he was quite athletic. He was the quarterback all 4 years and lettered in every sport he played including football, track, basketball and baseball. Mr. Peters moved to Sumter, SC where he attended classes at the University of South Carolina. Following that, he entered into the Navy were he traveled the world. He was a Yeoman First Class Petty Officer. He retired the Navy after 20 years of service. He then worked for NASE. Mr. Peters was an avid sports fan and loved the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. He enjoyed playing golf and won many tournaments. He always loved to run and would often run marathons for charity. He was truly a special kind of man, the kind of man that would light up a room whenever he walked in. He was the life of any party and never met a stranger. He would make you laugh with just a look. He was an incredible father, a wonderful son and a loving brother. He will be missed by many.

Survivors include his mother, Betty Shires Peters of Sumter; daughter, Alleson Lynn Peters of Palm Coast, Fl; two sisters, Sharon Ann Pugh (Bill) of Oak Hill, WV, Linda Rounsavall of Burke, VA; brother, David Lewis Peters (Linda) of Brandon, FL; two nephews, Dr. Bill Pugh, III of Oak Hill, WV and John Lewis Rounsavall of Burke, VA and several aunts and uncles.

A memorial service with military rites for Allen Preston Peters will be held Sunday, May 22, 2011 at 4:00 PM at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. J.R. Rosado will officiate. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:30 PM Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Kornegay Funeral Home Camden Chapel.

Memorials may also be made in Mr. Peter’s memory to Duke Cancer Institute DUMC-3828, Durham,  NC 27710.
